Honoring Educators During Teacher Appreciation Week
As Teacher Appreciation Week (May 6-10) approaches, it’s the perfect time to extend our gratitude to the teachers who pour their hearts and souls into their students. At The Balanced Child Method, we have the privilege of witnessing firsthand the dedication, passion, and commitment of these remarkable individuals, particularly in the early childhood centers and elementary schools we visit as part of our yoga program.
In every classroom we enter, we are greeted with warmth, enthusiasm, and a shared sense of purpose. It's a joy to see how teachers actively participate in our yoga sessions, not only as facilitators but as participants alongside their students. This spirit of playfulness and engagement creates a ripple, as children mimic their teachers' movements and absorb their energy.
"We love seeing teachers participate and let themselves be kids again," TBCM founder Amy Jo Hamilton said.
One of the most heartwarming aspects of our journey is witnessing how teachers seamlessly integrate yoga into their daily routines. From incorporating breathwork exercises to guiding children through calming techniques like Lion's Breath during moments of stress or anxiety, these educators are not just teaching yoga — they're imparting invaluable life skills that foster resilience, self-awareness, and emotional well-being.
For example, one morning I arrived late, disrupting our planned schedule — a potentially unsettling experience for children accustomed to routine. However, we adapted, and when it was time for the youngest yogis to participate, the teacher shared they had already practiced yoga at the usual time. The moment filled me with pride, knowing that she shared a love for yoga, and it wasn't just something the kids did once a week with me.
TBCM Instructor Nancy Secrest offered her appreciation of what the teachers do beyond the mat. This includes sharing their space to store yoga mats, offering up classroom supplies, and their enthusiasm for our program. Their readiness at the start of yoga class ensures that our sessions flow (pun intended!) smoothly.
What truly sets these teachers apart is their dedication to the holistic well-being of their students. Whether it's calming a child's meltdown with a soothing voice or teaching them how to apply yoga principles in everyday life, these educators go above and beyond.
As we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, let us take a moment to honor and recognize the incredible impact of these individuals.
To all the teachers we have the privilege of working with — and to educators everywhere — thank you.
With heartfelt appreciation,
The Balanced Child Method
